APPEARANCE: In her true form, Shadow Kiara is an Anti-form of Kiara, her other - a young lioness with inky black fur and bright, radiant yellow eyes. As a human, she takes the form of a 19-year-old girl with hair as black as the darkness itself and eyes so brightly yellow that they give off just a faint glow. Her raven hair is just past shoulder-length, and she usually wears a small ponytail on either side.
Her choice of attire usually reflects that of a punk/goth style with a Heartless (red/black) color scheme. Her favored outfit is a blank tank over a longer, short-sleeved red undershirt, a black skirt, and black knee-high boots with red lacing and bows. She also wears long, fingerless black-and-red striped gloves and matching leggings.
PERSONALITY: At a first encounter, Shadow Kiara may seem like a typical villainess; she's cunning, clever, ruthless, and manipulative. However, she's more playfully mischievous than downright evil. She enjoys the abilities and power granted to her by the darkness, but typically doesn't associate herself with others of her kind outside of simply keeping connections and manipulation. More or less a rogue Heartless, Kiara does what she wants or what will help her reach whatever goal she may have, and is willing to play any part or role that she needs to in order to get closer to her goal.
Kiara can also appear to be childish, silly, and naive; but while she may be actually silly at times, more often than not her innocence is feigned. She knows very well the harshness of the world(s) and the cruelty of reality, and becomes quiet and somber when reminded of such. She'd prefer not to think about that, however, and feels much happier when goofing off or playing around.
HISTORY: As the daughter of King Simba, Kiara was the princess of the Pridelands and heir to the throne. But this fact alone bothered her greatly. First of all, she had no desire to become a princess. She wanted to explore the world, and see all there was to see, but being a princess - and as future queen - she wouldn't be able to venture outside of the sunlight-gilded boundaries. And secondly, she didn't want to be known for being a princess. She wanted to be known for who she was, not what. But her father saw things differently and kept a close watch on her at all times. Kiara's anger and resentment towards her parents and everyone else, as well as her desperation for independence fueled the darkness that began to swell and take over her heart.
Kovu, an outsider who had once been Kiara's childhood friend, was growing up to be a strong and fierce lion. The adopted son of Scar, Simba's brother, he was taught and urged to take over as king. And the first part of his plan? Get close to Kiara. His first step was to rescue her from a fire that he and his brothers would secretly start - but things didn't go as planned.
It was Kiara's first independent hunt as an adult lioness, and she was so excited that she couldn't stay quiet enough to even get close to a wildebeest. She was so determined though to catch her own prey and show everyone that she could take care of herself, just like all the other lionesses - but then discovered that Simba was watching her the whole time. With her pride shattered and her anger at it's peak, she raced past the edges of the Pridelands to get as far away as she could and continued her hunt. She'd been so focused on targeting her prey that she didn't notice a fire beginning to sweep across the tall savanna grass.
The fire raged out of control, just as Kovu had planned, and was making his way through the flames to "rescue" Kiara and pretend to be a hero. However, no one expected for the young lioness to react in the way that she did. After running and evading the red tendrils of fire, Kiara became surrounded, and was quickly losing room. She went to jump over the fire but the flames crackled too high. As it closed in on her, she felt her fur begin to burn. The smoke made it hard to breathe and caused her vision to become blurry and shrouded. She became light headed and dizzy as the flames licked around her, and as her eyes glazed over from the thick black smoke she collapsed, falling to the ground. However, her heart was still working at double pace. Her strong will to survive caused her heart to do what it had to do - in order to live, she needed to escape her exhausted body. The darkness in her heart suddenly spread - not out of anger or hatred, but of survival rage - and devoured her heart completely. Suddenly her eyes flicked open, a brilliant, radiant yellow, and an ink-like darkness ruffled across her fur, turning her into a Heartless. Now a primal creature manifested from darkness and sin itself, this shadow of Kiara left the body and escaped through the fire and into a vast void of darkness.
Shadow was born when the darkness in Kiara's heart devoured itself in order to survive a raging fire set to trap her during a hunt. The corrupted heart became a Heartless, an anti-form of the lioness, and was able to escape before the physical body collapsed. Relying on pure instinct, Shadow Kiara lurked and stalked through the darkness, taking down prey and devouring hearts and slowly becoming more and more powerful. As she grew stronger, she soon found herself able to control her hunger and impulses, and eventually became completely free-willed, unlike other Heartless who mindlessly flocked to areas with delicious prey. She began fighting other Heartless for fun, and after growing even more in strength, discovered that she could devour other Heartless as well and absorb any hearts they had eaten; since then, she has resorted to such cannibalism in order to obtain most of her power, although she's not afraid to reap or devour the hearts of individuals when she sees fit.

Kiara exhaled with a quiet growl as she stopped at the edge of the open savanna far from the safety of Pride Rock. This had been her big day, or at least it was supposed to have been - today the other lionesses finally recognized her as a lioness and no longer just a cub. It was also the day of her first independent hunt, and she'd been so anxious to go out and prove to everyone, especially her father, that she wasn't just a princess. She wanted everyone to know that she was capable of handling herself. However, even on her big day, her father felt it necessary to keep a watch on her and send his little friends to spy on her. She was so tired of everyone feeling like they had to watch over her, and protect her, because she was the princess. She hated being a princess, because that's all anyone ever saw. Kiara wasn't just a princess, that was only a part of who she was, but it was the only part they noticed.
Her ears flattened backwards as her eyes narrowed in on the herd of wildebeest ahead of her. No matter what, she had to kill one and bring it back, failure wasn't an option. If she didn't succeed, then she'd just prove to everyone that she needed their constant protection, that she was still dependent on them. Blocking out every other thought, she then focused on her primal insticts, lowering her body against the ground, her golden fur blending in with the tall savanna grasses. Her tail flicked eagerly behind her as she slowly began to shift her weight, preparing to dash forward, when suddenly the wildebeest looked up and took off. She raised her body as she watched them, then growling in frustration she took off after one of them, hoping that she could just outrun it. She was so determined to prove herself, to catch her prey, that she didn't catch the scent of the smoke.
She realized the savanna was on fire only when she had become surrounded by the flames. It had spread quickly across the plains and no matter where she ran, she came to a wall of fire. It was closing in on her, but she saw a small cliff just above the tall flames and without hesitating, leapt as far as she could, clutching to the rock with her claws and scurried onto the higher ground. Her lungs had filled with smoke, her eyes glazing over. She coughed, trying to keep going but collapsed, gasping for air. The flames roared around her and she tried to stand up, but she couldn't breathe. Her vision was hazy and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move. Her consciousness began to fade. Her body suddenly became tense as she used the last of her energy to try and move, but to no avail. After a series of shortened, shallow breaths, her eyes closed and her body relaxed.
Her heart had been filled with darkness. Everyone acting like she was inferior to them, that she couldn't do anything on her own. Everyone overprotecting her and treating her like a child. Everyone labeling her and never getting to know the real Kiara... once her heart stopped beating, the darkness inside suddenly sent a pulse of energy throughout her body, a wave of sin ruffling her fur from her head to her tail. Her heart slowly dissolved, leaving only the darkness that had consumed it. Small spots of darkness appeared in blotches on her beautiful golden coat, and rapidly spread outward like spilled ink, until her entire body was covered in black. Her eyes flicked open, no longer her normal eyes; they were pure yellow and seemed to glow brighter than the flames around her. Steadily, she stood up, her body moving but still seemed to be lifeless, as if she had strings pulling her up like a puppet. Her figure slowly began dissolving into a black, mist-like substance and faded away, leaving the Pride Lands.
