The site above is a lovely cataloger of common tropes used in our everyday entertainment. It is also useful to be able to describe a scenario in a few keywords, and to pull examples from. (Not to mention it helps you understand some of mine and Sabata's references.)
What I challenge you to do is to trope up your character. Go through the site and keep clicking on links until you find ones that apply to you and your characters. Here is also a good place to put some of those themes down for your characters, to give everyone a chance to see under the lid.
