Of late, Scar had not been sleeping as well as he once had. Things weren't all what they ought to be. For starters, there had been far too little rain of late. Not much to be done about that but still, the weather seemed to have been awfully odd of late. He'd heard rumblings like thunder many times recently and sometimes he would have sworn...well, he would never tell anyone this, but he'd have sworn he heard words amongst the rumblings. The thunderous sound made him think of Mufasa and he was certain he was merely imagining hearing someone speak from the clouds of treachery and family blood. At any rate, there were other more pressing matters. Those mangy dogs, the hyenas, had taken far too much advantage of his generosity and these days the herds tended to avoid the Pridelands more and all those who didn't seemed to disappear far too quickly. Something really must be done about that. They were not nearly as respectful as they needed to be either. Scar scowled as he prowled along a ledge, seeking solitude yet finding himself still surrounded by worthless, flea-bitten mongrels. The lionesses, on his orders, had left to hunt long ago and should have returned by now. As usual, they were slacking off on the job. They weren't looking hard enough, he was sure of that. Even if there were less herds around, surely there was still game to be found. He gazed out upon the Pridelands. Once it had been soooo beautiful. Such a majestic symbol of how powerful he had become. And now look at it. It looked a lot like the elephant graveyard where he'd visited the hyenas so many times during his plotting leading to Mufasa's death. Disgusted, he turned away and wandered down off of Pride Rock. There was another problem. Lately, hyenas had been disappearing. Not that there weren't too many, but nonetheless, if too many left, keeping his power could become a problem. Where could they be going? It wasn't like they were welcome anywhere else more than they were here.
